Weapon Swapping
How do you fit all your weapon sets into the allocated 4 slots available?
Are you meant to keep your inventory window open or something? (To me it sounds not practical, but thought I'd ask for the sake of it). I'm really confused, because you have a defensive set, and what if you also want to energy hide, but you've already got your remaining 3 slots taken up?
Should probably note, I'm referring to PvP play as opposed to PvE.

4 weapon slots, 1 defensive, 2 caster, 1 high set.
You pick the most offensive character on their team, and grab the +10 vs that type shield and wield that. Change if you feel its necessary, or if the axe warrior is ignoring u and the hammer is pounding on u.
Then if you have 2 lines, a 40/40 set for each.'
Then a +30/-2 set of ur more common line.
Thats the 4 sets.

I prefer 40/40 on the healing set and a 40/20/20 prot swap for my 2 caster stats, but either works well enough.

I see, so the negative energy set is only used when you know there will be energy denial from the opposition?

pretty much yea
although i only use one 40/40 set in arenas (healing prayers since i've only got 1 or 2 prot's), this allows you to have your negative energy set out.
In GvG's you have more time to switch as its a longer match so id keep the negative energy set in the inventory and only take it out when you need it.
at least thats what works for me

Just keep a -5E spear in your inventory and swap to it to use on your defensive set if theres alot of e-denial.
Generally i know some people use a -5E spear on their defensive set all the time, not specifically because of e-denial, but more because it forces you to swap weapons nearly every cast, which is somewhere you want to get to eventually.
I think this is a good thing to do if you feel you need practice on weapon swapping, if not though, use a +5E.
Regarding the sets you should use on the 4 slots... if you are running a WoH Hybrid you definatly want this:
Defensive Set, 40\40 Healing set, 40\20\20 (40% HCT, 20% HSR, 20% Enchantment) Prot staff, High set.
I don't know anyone who plays with inventory open and i feel that generally swapping shields from your inventory mid battle is not practical at all, especially as a monk.
I use the different dmg types shields from advance if i know ill be facing a certain team build, for example in HA in the beggining you can tab through the enemies and know what build they run, if they run rspike, swap to a piercing shield, ritspike? lightning shield, kappa spike? (common in GVG), cold shield, etc..

I'm notoriously bad at weaponswapping, and I do this. There's nothing like an energy crunch to force your mind into the right direction. The problem then becomes getting back into shieldset again.
There's also another useful bit with it. When packing Glyph of Lesser Energy, you're able to freecast Holy Veil (1s is an eternity, and it doesn't benefit from your 40/40 anyway) while sitting on an empty tank (masking with low/def set) in case of a pleak. You can also eat shames in that set without much hurt.
Just watch out for the following spike on your woh monk when the enemy thinks that you're dry.

I don't understand your first question. You don't have to keep your inventory open - you can hotswap between 4 different weapon sets with keyboard or mouse shortcuts (check the options menu). Default is F1-F4. If you've never done it before, check that you actually have all 4 weapon slots enabled; there's a menu button in the inventory window.
The defensive swap is your negative energy set if you need it. There's a 10e difference between using a +5e and a -5e weapon; obviously, you use a +5e on the defensive set if you're not expecting denial, and a -5e if you are. Some people use a -5e in all situations (as per the above posts) to put a bigger gap between their defensive set and their casting sets.

Sorry that I worded my question awkwardly, but that isn't what I meant at all.
I meant that in those 4 weapon slots available how was I to fit all the necessary weapon sets in it. (I hope that wasn't worded awkwardly too).
What you said about the defensive set and so on is the answer I was looking for, as well as the other replies everyone else has given.
I understand now, thank you. =]
